The BBC are really churning out these well produced crime dramas – this one, THE FIELD OF BLOOD, is moodily atmospheric and stars Jayd Johnson, David Morrissey and Katherine Kelly.
It is a 2 parter (concluding part is on Friday) set in Eighties Glasgow and continues with the story of Paddy Meehan (Jayd Johnson) who in series 1 in 2011 was a copygirl at the Daily News however now she is a fully fledged journalist and as such is first on the scene when a disturbance in the wealthy part of the city leads to the murder of a human rights lawyer.
Katherine Kelly (ex-Coronation St. star) plays the new, scary, ball-busting editor-in-chief whilst David Morrissey plays the editor who always looks like he carries the worries of the world on his shoulders, or at least the worries of keeping the paper afloat, whilst having a strong moral line that he does not want to cross.
It is the era of the Miners’ Strike and with the changing face of journalism one can see the backdrop to this crime drama which is written and directed by David Kane. Watch the clip and get ready to be intrigued….do look at how brown everything is from the wooden desks to most of the journalist’s beige shirts!!
