In the run up to Red Nose Day Richard Curtis has written a film called Mary and Martha, starring Hilary Swank and Brenday Blethyn, to be shown on 1st March on BBC1. It will, through drama, show the plight of Afican children who die, needlessly, of a totally curable disease Malaria.
Curtis decided he couldn’t just go on being: a writer who knew about this stuff intimately, and yet continued to write fictional films, usually featuring weddings.
This, he says, is why he wrote Mary & Martha.

I watched this last night on my I player. Well done Richard Curtis .. Malaria is a killer…… mosquitoes can be lethal…. and we CAN do something about it. Richard Curtis has raised its profile… Thank you…… and if you are travelling, remember to take your pills….. we are lucky to be able to get them……. thousands of children are not.
