While bemusedly watching my neighbour erecting various Colditz-style barbed wire fences on the boundaries of some fields he has just acquired, a friend remarked to me that she never sees any hedgehogs these days. Not even squashed ones. When she was knee high, my younger sister used to call hedgehogs “pricks” and that name has stuck in our family as funny sayings have a tendency to do. Anyhow, hedgehogs are in decline. If we make our gardens more prick friendly, they might do better. Ideas on how to do this can be found onHedgehogstreeta sweet little website that, if you live in the country, you might well be interested in.

Don't fret – I saw one last week (alive). Cute little thing. But they have fleas don't they? Mary x
