This week I feel like a crap MUM! My children seem to be allergic to visiting any cultural place of any kind, museums, the opera, famous historical monuments, ANYTHING, I’ve tried them all and it is now virtually impossible to get them to do any of these things without a full on battle of wills followed by mini meltdowns as both children will simply stand in front of said culture and gawp disinterested and gormless wherever I put them, I get no feed back, no thanks, no interest, perhaps a naughty giggle at the bronze willies if I’m lucky, and the struggle to get them there in the first place is so overwhelming that I can’t face even trying anymore. At aged 12 and 9 they are wedged firmly into the screen nation (and sport of course) that is where they have the most fun, inside the computer, which sadly for Shakespeare, Picasso and Beethoven is, for the majority of youngsters, a more exciting place to be these days, not to say that I allow the kids to be on their screens for too long but because the games, apps and availability of just about anything you can imagine exists in technicolour cyberspace now, the old fashioned artists are failing miserably to compete for attention in this household.
HELP what can I do??

Ellie: 4 kids, no culture quite normal! Occasional visits to Science museum with boys as it is interactive and to Natural History when they were going through dinosaur phase! However more than that was a struggle. Too much else going on in their lives but does tend to make you as a parent feel guilty. It will happen as it did with all of us, only now do I really enjoy exhibitions at the very young age of 53yrs! Annabel x
