I feel like I'm the only one on Twitter today... very very quiet. Think I'll go and watch the Voice instead. Night x

Annabel can't quite understand the new feminist voice…….

Husband returns home bearing copy of day’s Evening Standard. I have definitely been living in the country for too long a time as I had no idea that this paper is now free. I presume this has upped the circulation and all the revenue comes from the advertising and consequently it is a meaty newspaper (full of ads!) but the reason for bringing it home was to show me a feature on a new satirical blog, which apparently is piling up the hits by making feminism funny. I thought maybe my husband was giving me a gentle hint that ‘other people’ are making money out of their blogs and so why can’t we. (Please note that this is a question us Countrywives do ask each other occasionally!) However on closer inspection I realised that maybe it was the name of the blog that just attracted him…..Vagenda…..hmmm, just as I thought, men’s brains are kept somewhere below the waistline. However I have to admit I was intrigued so I logged on and the first thing that I read, and did not quite understand, was the tagline, “Like King Lear, but for girls”. Starting to feel a bit old and out of it, I read on that it was started by 8 London based 20 something journalists, only one of whom has dared to reveal her identity but thank God for the 20 something line as I was starting to wonder whether I was thick but now I just know that I am too old to understand this blog.
Apparently it should have magazine editors running for cover, however I have to say that it had me running for cover too because, whilst I admit it is a cleverly designed blog and the writing is excellent and at times funny, it is also extremely rude using language better left in the gutter from whence it came. Please don’t click on it and then leave it in your ‘search history’ for younger readers in your household to find! It has a good point to make that we are fed up with being treated as stereotypical women with only one agenda and that is to make our man happy but I just wish it could have been told in a less expletive way!
Meanwhile I am happier with my other discovery this week of an app callediMapMyHikewhich works on GPS signal so as you set off on a walk, press start and it records the route, the length, the time you walked it in so that you can compare if you return to this walk another day. Also good if someone else is taking you on a new walk as you can nowhave it recorded in case you want to try it on your own and can’t quite remember the route because you were chatting too much the last time you did it or, as in my case last week, trying so hard to keep breathing as we went up steep inclines I could not note down landmarks! It’s a bit like satnav for walkers (and talkers!)

  1. Too right, to be funny doesn't need the addition of the 'f' or 'c' word – can they not be funny without it? I will continue reading CW and not the 'V' one!

  2. Who is reading the V blog, I found it confusing, coarse though it is probably cutting edge but think I will return to my little feminist hole and try and keep hubby and kids happy. P.S. I enjoy my role in life and I love your blog. Jenny
