Annabel and her small dog roll their eyes…

As I walked the dogs this morning, in the slushy, snowy, ice and fog I pondered on my weekend and the week ahead. Saturday got off to a bad start as Mother called to say she couldn’t cope in the cold anymore so could she come and stay and, as 3 out of 4 of our children were also on their way home, it looked like a weekend attached to the Aga. Whilst I was getting sorted I suddenly noticed my youngest daughter’s dog shaking quite violently and then, on closer inspection, I saw that his eyes were rolling and he was having an epileptic fit so I shouted for back up from Husband who came running straight from the shower! A naked, and dripping water, man was enough to bring small dog back to this planet though it could have possibly sent me over the edge. At our age these sights should definitely be reserved to the confines of the bedroom with the lights off! Dog is fine and I have also recovered. All guests arrived and soon after the snow came which loses its allure very quickly when you have 3 long haired dogs rushing in and out of the house.

Mother has decided to stay indefinitely which isn’t necessarily what I had in mind but like my children she sees a modern, well heated house, constant flow of home cooked food as much more appealing than a cold house, cooking for one and no company! My patience is slightly stretched as, add to this the characteristics of ‘interfering and critical’ and you can see where this is going. Who will visit me in Holloway when I have flipped and murdered Mother?!! Though I may be pipped to the post by Husband who is not so keen to return home daily to the constant companionship of a mother-in-law, can you blame him? I wish I had the patience of a saint but I don’t so I feel that this is a week I need to find lots to do away from home……..any suggestions?
