However, in my opinion, hairdressing is one of them. So as I lay in bed and pondered my trip today to the ‘smoke’ to have my hair cut, should I go by train or car, I also thought about any other things that London does better and all I could think of was the vast range of culture (art, theatre, restaurants etc) and sporting events (the latter was added by my husband as needless to say I am quite content to watch or ignore these on television!).
I have always had a bit of a thing about haircuts as I am not a ‘Kate Middleton’ type who can just wear it naturally long and all it needs is just a good blow dry now and then. Long hair, which I have sported at times, does nothing for me apart from make me look quite scary and unkempt (I have very thick hair) so it is off to London, every six weeks, to have it cut and styled and, since darling Boris has banished the congestion charge from the west of London, I can go to my favourite hairdressers,Stannard and Slingsby,in Kensington High Street for £10 less, read all those glossy mags I never now buy – isn’t that a sad admission that I now don’t need all that gloss and glamour in my life! Then a quick shop however I am more than likely to dive into Waterstones as I love a good book shop though inevitably I will end up ordering on Amazon, cheaper and more convenient, and back home to the fresh air, the relaxed and slower pace and all my friends!
Sorry Ellie I know you will disagree so let’s make a list of all the things you think London does better than the country?
P.S. Sky News asked everyone this morning what does Britain do better than other countries and all they could come up with was Breakfasts, Cold remedies and the Royal Family and the latter is lucky to be on the list with the antics of Prince Andrew right now!!

If I had hair like yours I would sell it regularly to the Japanese and be a very rich countrywide.
