If I ever have doubts about having left the hustle and bustle of London (which I don’t), it only takes a day like today to make me realise just how happy I am in our rural haven. Just spent an indolent hour wandering through the woods behind our house, following the free-flowing stream in which my dogs absolutely love to play. The sun was sparkling on the water. The birds were singing. I never ever see anyone else, so have the whole magical place to myself. What I did see were the first primrose petals which means that very soon the woodland floor will be awash with pale yellow, together with the fresh green shoots that are poking their heads up through last autumn’s crispy ochre leaves. It is so pleasurable to be warmed by the sun, rather than chilled by depressing grey drizzle. Anyhow, that’s enough florid text, I’m off to Guildford to find some Capri pants.

That sunshine is a life saver, today was actually worth getting up for.
