Annabel is full of memories and celebrations……

Eldest daughter turned 21 today and there has begun what appears to be 10 days of celebration for her, and the same amount of commiseration for husband’s bank account. Eldest daughter informed her university that she would be taking a day off to celebrate as, unfortunately, her birthday fell on a Thursday, one of the only 3 days each week that she has to go into uni!
So 21 years have been reached and at times I have wondered whether we would make it with her as she has managed to have many dramas in her life, and has pushed the boundaries of parental control/guidance to the limit however she has given us so much pleasure, as well, that all the pain is forgettable and all we remember is joy (bit like childbirth).
Her party is on Saturday week so I am sure our love will once again be tested as we have 50 of her closest friends partying and staying at a local country hotel. Every time she gets into a fix I call one of her godmothers and we reminisce about how we were at her age and so perhaps the saying ‘the apple does not fall far from the tree’ is most appropriate. She cannot help the genetic pool she comes from!
How nice is it that she wants to spend so much of her birthday with her ‘aged parents’, I cannot remember feeling the same way when I was 21. Let’s hope the next 21 years are as fun-filled for her as the last 21 have been for us.
